SYLLABUS

I. DESCRIPTION

The course is designed to teach women the fundamental principles of Bible lesson design and delivery for women and children within the context of biblical authority. 

II. OBJECTIVES

  1. Students will be able to match each book of the Bible with its theme.
  2. Students will be able to discuss and use learning styles, age-appropriate teaching strategies, and learning activities for teaching the Bible to children.
  3. Students will be able to develop and present various types of Bible lessons for teen and adult women.

IV. UNITS OF STUDY 

  • Week One – Introduction to Course. Read Syllabus. Read chapter 1 in Woman to Woman. Complete open-book quiz. 
  • Week Two – Let’s Be Great Teachers.  I have found 2 different copies of Crabtree’s Let’s Be Great Teachers with 2007 date in front cover. One has a blue cover and one has a pink cover. The page numbers differ. So, I will give both in this syllabus. Read Section 1, pages 9-22 in blue and pages 7-14 in pink. Also, read chapter 3 in Woman to Woman. Complete open-book quiz. 
  • Week Three  Standing Before an Audience. Read Section 2 of Crabtree’s book, Let’s Be Great Teachers, pages 23-50 inblue and pages 15-34 in pink. No reading in Woman to Woman. Complete open-book quiz.
  • Week Four – Great Bible Class Activities.  Read Section 3 of Crabtree, pages 51-86 in blue and pages 35-55 in pink, and chapter 9 in Woman to Woman. Complete open-book quiz.
  • Week Five – Teaching a Children’s Bible Class.  Read Section 4 of Crabtree, pages 87-137 in blue and pages 57-92 in pink. Develop and present a 30-minute lesson plan to a children’s Bible class with an adult present to evaluate. Submit evaluation form. Complete open book quiz. 
  • Week Six – How to Begin a Lesson.  Read Section 5 of Crabtree, pages 139-171 in blue and pages 93-112 in pink and chapter 2 in Woman to Woman. Complete open-book quiz.
  • Week Seven –Lesson Organization.  Read chapter 6 in Woman to Woman. Complete open book Quiz including Bible books and themes.
  • Week Eight – Lesson Delivery.  Read Lecture Notes and chapter 8 in Woman to Woman. Complete open book Quiz.
  • Week Nine – Exploring Biographical Lessons.  Read chapter 7 in Woman to Woman.  Develop a 3-5minute biographical lesson outline. Complete open book Quiz.
  • Week Ten – Exploring Narrative Lessons.  Read Lecture Notes. Develop a 3-5-minute narrative lesson outline. Complete open book Quiz.
  • Week Eleven – Exploring Topical Lessons.  Read Lecture Notes. Develop a 3-5-minute topical lesson outline. Complete open book Quiz.
  • Week Twelve – Exploring Textual and Expository Lessons.  Read Lecture Notes. Develop a 3-5-minute expository lesson outline. Complete open book Quiz.
  • Week Thirteen – Summary and Presentation of LessonsRead Lecture Notes, chapter 11 in Woman to Woman. Present one 3-5 minute Bible lesson using one of your lesson outlines. This lesson may be the biographical, narrative, topical, or expository outline. An adult evaluator must hear the lesson and complete the evaluation sheet. The evaluation sheet and the lesson outline must be submitted.

V. EVALUATION        

Quizzes (20%), Children’s Class Lesson Plan (10%), Children’s Class Presentation (15%), Adult Class Outlines (20%) Adult Class Presentation (15%), and Final exam (20%).
